Elected to the New Jersey State Senate in November 1991, Senator Peter A. Inverso has been reelected to four-year terms in November 1993 and 1997, and a two-year term in November 2001. Senator Inverso represents the 14th Legislative District, covering parts of Mercer and Middlesex Counties. He is Co-Chairman of the Senate Law and Public Safety and Veterans' Affairs Committee, and serves on the Senate Commerce Committee.
Senator Inverso is the primary sponsor of several pieces of major legislation that are now State law, including: "Megan's Law"; the Megan's Law Internet Notification Amendment; "The Fair Credit Reporting Act," which entitles consumers to receive one free credit report per year; and the Victim's Impact Statement, which gives family members of a murder victim the right to enter a statement during the sentencing phase of murder trials. He has also spearheaded legislative funding for vital municipal services that helped municipalities stabilize their local property tax rates.
Prior to his election to the State Senate, he served two terms as a Mercer County Freeholder. While Freeholder, he served on various boards and commissions related to his county responsibilities, including the Commission on the Status of Women, the Drug and Alcohol Commission, the County Library Board, the Board of Social Services and the War Memorial Commission.
Senator Inverso serves as President and CEO of Roma Federal Savings Bank. He is a Certified Public Accountant with a B.S. Degree in Commerce and Accounting from Rider University (1960), where he was the recipient of merit scholarships awarded by the Board of Trustees and General Motors Corporation. He holds an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from The College of New Jersey.
The Senator is Vice Chairman of the Robert Wood Johnson Health Care Corp at Hamilton and has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Hamilton. He is a trustee of Project Freedom, which provides housing and assistance for people with disabilities, and a board member of Angel's Wings, which provides respite care for at-risk children under the State's care. He is a member of the New Jersey State Museum Board of Trustees and the New Jersey Commerce and Economic Growth Commission.
Senator Inverso resides in Hamilton Township. He and his wife, Geri, have five children, Donna, Marylyn, Susan, Anthony and Diana. They also have a granddaughter, Geena and a grandson, Nicholas.
