InfoLenora Pate, shareholder at Sirote & Permutt, P. C., was selected by Governor Bob Riley to serve as Vice- Chair of the newly established Alabama Citizens Constitutional Commission. The Commission will be tasked with looking at some basic flawed provisions in our current constitution, and making recommendations for reform. Their findings and recommendations will be reported to the Governor within 120 days.

Pate said of her selection, Governor Riley is aware of how passionately I feel about Constitutional reform. I am both honored and committed to serve with Commission Chair Jim Bennett in this effort to achieve true and meaningful reform within the necessary time frame.

The Commission will be composed entirely of volunteer members to be appointed by Governor Riley very soon. The chance to make a significant difference in the lives of all citizens of this state, will more than compensate for the extra hours outside our professions, needed to accomplish this task within a 4 month period, Pate said.

Ms. Pate is the Chair of the Health Law Practice Group at Sirote & Permutt, concentrating her practice in business and healthcare law, government and public policy, federal and state legislation and regulation, employment and labor law, and workers compensation and insurance. In December 2002, Governor Riley appointed Pate to serve on his Transition Team, making recommendations for his Cabinet appointments. Previously she served in Governor Jim Folsoms Cabinet as the first woman Director of the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations and was the Governors liaison to federal and state Health Care Reform Task Forces. She was also a former gubernatorial appointee to, and past Chairperson of, the Alabama Womens Commission and an Alabama Bar appointee to the Third Citizens Conference on the Alabama State Courts.

Ms. Pate serves on the boards of many civic, charity and leadership organizations, and is a frequent speaker on public policy, health care and on issues affecting women.
