InfoBorn Moses Hillkowitz in Riga, Latvia. Immigrated to the United States in 1885; lawyer; leader of "Kangaroo" faction which left the Socialist Labor Party and marged with the Social Democratic Party to form the Socialist Party of America in 1901; served as the Socialist Party's first national secretary; candidate for U.S. Representative from New York, 1906, 1908, 1920; candidate for mayor of New York, N.Y., 1918, 1933. Died, of tuberculosis, in 1933.
