Daily World in 1913 as a cub reporter and was business manager 1920-1934; during the First World War served as a corporal in the Thirty-ninth Field Artillery, Thirteenth Division; owner and publisher of the Hoquiam Daily Washingtonian 1934-1950; elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Fred B. Norman; reelected to the Eighty-first and to the five succeeding Congresses and served from June 7, 1947, until his death on the floor of the United States House of Representatives, Washington, D.C., March 28, 1960; interment in Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen, Wash.
