My name is Henry Oosterhof and I am seeking the nomination to represent this riding as the Conservative Party of Canada Candidate for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes
I was born and raised in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes on our family’s dairy farm on Jellyby Road. I attended grade school in Athens and then Thousand Island Secondary School. I worked at Black and Decker for a short time, after which I attended and graduated from Kemptville College. I then joined my parents on the family dairy farm and began my career as a dairy producer.
I am married to my wonderful wife, Evelina, we have four adult children. They have blessed us with eight grandsons…so far. I work together with my brother Alex and son Steve. Together, as a multigenerational farming family, we have developed a state of the art modern dairy farm with robotic milking equipment for the herd of 120 cows and another 120 head of young cattle. On 500 acres we grow of a mixture of crops including corn, soybeans, and hay.
Twelve years ago I ran and was successful in an election bid on The Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) Board for the counties of Leeds-Grenville, Frontenac, Lanark, and Renfrew to represent the dairy farms in this region. Since then I have been successful in two more campaigns. I continue to represent the 260 licensed dairy farms which today involves 500 farm families. In my tenure as a DFO board member, I have worked on committees developing many policies that have guided the farm families in Ontario and across Canada.
I meet with dairy committees exchanging ideas and discussing policy with them. I currently represent Ontario on a National Committee with staff and representatives from all ten provinces. I take part in meetings with politicians in the Provincial Legislature and in Federal Parliament.
Serving others in my church, community and in business, has been a way of life for me.
I believe the talents that I have developed over my career in the dairy industry, on the farm and in the office have given me the skill set needed to serve the people, organizations, and businesses of this riding as your Conservative Member of Parliament.
I look forward to the challenge and opportunities that will come from being your Conservative Party Nominee in my home Riding of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Island and Rideau Lakes.
