Blandine Tona is an Afro-Franco Manitoban who has lived and worked in Manitoba since 2009.
After leaving her home country of Cameroon, Blandine became a robust and active member of her host community of St. Boniface, involving herself in a variety of cultural, social and progressive organizations, which work towards the advancement of equality, social justice and women’s empowerment.
These areas of advocacy have profoundly shaped and informed Blandine’s life goals since she undertook her Master’s degrees in Public Law (2006) and Political Science (2007). Blandine, what’s more, is presently a Ph.D. candidate abroad in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Douala (Cameroon).
With a strong legal background, Blandine has continued to build upon several learned approaches in multi-lingual and cross-cultural advocacy platforms, while developing a varied skill set which forms the basis of vigilant advocacy and good governance.
Blandine’s work and volunteerism is rooted in providing a voice for the voiceless and marginalized. She is a highly recognized community organizer and activist and was nominated as one of the 10 Manitoba Future Leaders in 2017 (CBC, Radio-Canada).
Blandine’s work involves developing educational workshops, presenting at conferences, skills development, program and staff management, leading community projects and creating safer spaces for vulnerable peoples with a focus on diversity and inclusion in Winnipeg.
An active resident of the St. Boniface community, Blandine and her husband, Clément Seyi, are the proud parents of Yasmine (8) and Julia (6) — both of whom attend École Taché. She is also a devoted stepmom to Lamine (17).
She is a voice and vehicle for progressive change, empathy-building and leadership
