I am seeking the Colorado State House District 12 seat to challenge the corporate influence that profits a small few while compromising our democracy, our environment, and our ability to meet the basic human needs of ALL of our population.

When I moved to Lafayette in 2009 I had recently left a career in Science education and city life in Minneapolis to focus on our growing family. I was very lucky to come to know the Lafayette and East Boulder County communities through the intense task of raising young children (now 6, 10 and 12). It is hard to imagine a more effective way to learn about all the work that goes into making communities shine than navigating the wide ranging needs of a family. As I sought to learn more about the people and place, I volunteered and worked across our schools and with Boulder County volunteer programs to fight poverty.

In 2016 I joined the movement to fight oil and gas development in Boulder County. I was shocked to understand the political landscape that made this assault on our community possible. Neither dominant party was willing to compromise their good standing with the industry to protect us. With a formal education background in research based science and lifetime as an educator --work on this issue came naturally to me and I have continued to grow into the activism. I am seeking this office as an extension of this work, recognizing that the unchecked oil and gas industry is but one damaging symptom in a system designed to favor corporations.
