InfoBruce, a 4th generation Wyomingite, was born in Lovell, Big Horn County, Wyoming, the fourth of nine children. He grew up on a farm east of town, not far from the confluence of the Big Horn and Shoshoni Rivers. As a young boy Bruce participated in 4H, Little League, Boy Scouts, and helped with farm work like any other youngster growing up on a farm.

As a youth, Bruce participated in school athletics and other extracurricular activities while continuing to work on the farm. He earned money for college by herding cattle, hauling hay and hoeing sugar beets, a job he hated.

The principles of hard work and diligence learned as a young man were used by Bruce in school and work and will be applied as your Congressman.

Bruce went to undergraduate school at Brigham Young University where he met and married Diane. After graduation they came back to Wyoming where Bruce attended law school at the University of Wyoming.

Experience in Wyoming
Following his graduation from the University of Wyoming School of Law in 1979, Asay worked as a law clerk for the District Court in Cheyenne. He worked for the Wyoming Public Service Commission as a staff attorney, advising the Commission and representing consumers as a member of the Consumer Representative Staff. Here he helped consumers on cases that involved nuclear generation (WPPSS), gas utility deregulation and many utility rate cases.

After service with the state government, Asay entered the private practice of law emphasizing utility, employment and educational issues. He has represented teachers and Wyoming school districts in his career. It is his expertise in these areas that will be particularly helpful to Wyoming residents. As the federal government increasingly encroaches on areas reserved to the state, it is critical that we elect Bruce Asay who has the experience and knowledge necessary to advocate on our behalf. He also represents utilities, including rural telephone companies, and has assisted them as they expanded the state's broadband system and improved the quality of telecommunications services throughout Wyoming

Bruce has provided service to his community through his work with youth, his church, the Military Affairs Committee and service clubs such as Rotary.

Bruce is a proud father and a doting grandpa. He and Diane have six children: Brig, an electrical engineer; Emily, a veterinarian; Chris, presently obtaining a Masters degree in Art Education; Meredith, soon to graduate from UW Law School, Greg, graduating this May from Emerson College in Boston, and Erin, a junior at Central High School in Cheyenne. Five of their children, including their daughter-in-law Kim, have graduated from the University of Wyoming. The Asays have three grandchildren, Zach, Madeline, and Sam.

One of the candidate's favorite activities is driving to Laramie and watching University of Wyoming athletic events with his children.

As he stated in his public announcement, Bruce's family, including Diane and his children are his greatest asset.

Member: Wyoming National Guard
Bruce Asay is a member of the Wyoming Air National Guard and has recently been appointed as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air. In this capacity Colonel Asay (General select) serves as the Commander of the Air National Guard and directs its members, including those who are being deployed overseas.

Colonel Asays military career spans nearly three decades beginning as a general motor vehicle repairman and extending to that of a State Staff Judge Advocate. In this capacity Colonel Asay has helped with the passage of legislation involving the military. The legislation involved the modernization of the military code, tuition assistance to help the soldiers/airmen of the Guard, land purchases and extending benefits to deserving Guard families. He also chaired the committee working for passage of a constitutional amendment involving the Wyoming National Guard.

While Colonel Asay applauds the sacrifices of Wyomings soldiers and aviators, as well as their families and employers, careful consideration must be given to the long term use of the reserves in order to maintain a force that protects our homeland and our interests abroad.
