Yang has some interesting points to make.
But these fanboy group names are really irritating. Maybe he can call out Beliebers next.

Maybe he'll form a Pirate Party?
Pirate voyages would be a unique way to fund the UBI
But as for a third party.. whatever groups of people really aren't covered well by the Ds/Rs, covering one group really doesn't add up to a high percentage in most situations and that doesn't even get to the people who'd sink it on the spoilerism grounds
Yang sorta had a shot to counter the perception of being single-issue or a gadfly and it's possible he's really botching it this year.

They're at least representing politics that are otherwise unrepresented in the US, even if sectarianism is a major problem within and between them, and their current overall constituency is small. Centrist politics are otherwise well-represented in the US within the Democratic and Republican parties.

Yang has completely misplayed the favorable hand he was dealt by his unexpectedly strong support early in the 2020 primaries. His willingness to engage critically with a core element of Trump's election in 2016 -- namely the displacement of traditionally blue collar jobs and economic anxiety generally -- was an interesting addition to the dialogue within the Democratic party (even if I don't necessarily see things exactly as he does). Unless his endgame is to sell books and to do speaking engagements, he has stymied his own path to mainstream political discourse. Perhaps it is simply an impatient distaste for playing the long game, ending in what I think wound up being perceived is a disingenuous campaign for NYC Mayor.

It's difficult to understand the rationale behind forming a centrist 3rd party.
The only smart way to do that, would be to focus on one geographical constituency, and try to muscle out one of the other two major parties within that context. Then, with a regional base of support, who knows? But trying to take some new, centrist 3rd party nationwide, is just idiotic.

Thing is, there's a perfect example of how to do this thing in the Democratic Party - Bernie. But apparently it takes more patience than Yang has. His "Yang Gang" went to his head and he thinks he's more popular than he is.
