As a man of faith, Rico has tried to live out this principle. It all started when Rico was 14 and went on a missionary trip to Tecate, Mexico with his church. The trip opened the eyes of this young man to the benefits of helping others. Rico saw the poverty so common to families living there. He saw moms and dads struggle to provide for the kids they loved so very much. And it broke his heart. While there, Rico helped build houses improving the lives of these struggling families. It was on this trip that Rico decided to dedicate his life to serving others. When the trip was over, Rico was a young man with a mission.
As an adult, Rico continues serving others in many capacities. For seven years, Rico worked for a nonprofit leading after school mentoring programs benefiting at-risk low-income youths in Adams 12 schools. For the past 10 years, Rico has worked for and now leads a nonprofit helping youth and adults develop healthy relationships in their lives. As part of this work, Rico leads marriage workshops and retreats helping couples love each other better through communication skills and understanding.
If that’s not enough, Rico served on the Adams 12 school board for three years improving the education for our kids and is currently an elder at his church where he oversees the marriage ministry and missions.
On the personal side, Rico has been married to Brenda for 12 years and together they have 4 wonderful kids.
Rico wants to bring his vast experiences of serving and uniting others in our community to the Colorado State House. More than anything, the State House needs people with leadership experience both serving and uniting people. Rico has this critical experience and will work hard in the Colorado House for our community.
