| Info | Infinite was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Burlington, Vermont after graduating high school in 1991. At 18 years old, he struggled to find his way in this new environment and experienced quite a few setbacks, including the loss of half his nuclear family to institutional and domestic violence; incarceration; and all of the collateral damages that comes with having a criminal record.
Yet, through perseverance, unending love and support from surviving family members, and a new caring community, Infinite overcame adversity that many people are never able to recover from.
At 21 years old, Infinite helped jumpstart a cultural revolution in 1990’s Burlington through his love for hip hop, soul and urban music. With the explosion of deejays and emcees in such a small New England city, the vinyl music scene was also Infinite’s first introduction to local politics.
While evolving as a performing artist, Infinite began his academic career as a continuing education student at the University of Vermont (UVM), where he worked the graveyard shift to pay for college. After a long journey between academia and practicing his art, Infinite finally earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2005.
During this time, under the leadership of Sandra Spiegel and Beverly Colston, Infinite worked for consecutive years as co-coordinator of UVM’s Summer Enrichment Scholarship Program, a summer long residential program for incoming first year students.
Pursuing his interest in working with young people, Infinite was hired as a residential manager at Spectrum Youth & Family services, where he gained experience working in supportive environments, at the emergency shelter, and at an 18-month long single-room occupancy residential program.
It was during this time that Infinite was also evolving as an activist, after the assailant of an unarmed Black male was acquitted for a killing that was adjudicated as self defense.
After more than three years as a residential manager, Infinite became restless in his attempts at making a difference in the world. So he journeyed back to his hometown, NYC, to pursue a master’s degree in a completely different field – policy.
Between 2008 and 2012, Infinite learned the difference between activism and organizing; became engulfed at the intersections of policy and politics; produced functional/album art; and earned a Master of Science in Urban Policy Analysis and Management from the New School University of Public Engagement.
When Infinite returned to Burlington, VT in 2012, he immediately began to put his knowledge, skills and talent to work in the community where he spent some of his most formative years.
Infinite volunteered with the Community Justice Center of Burlington - as a member of a Circle of Support and Accountability (COSA) team - with a person that was transitioning back into the community after serving prison time.
Infinite served as an alternate for the City of Burlington on the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission. In that role he helped to update the County’s Public Participation Plan.
Infinite worked as a staff assistant for the Progressive Party City Council Caucus doing research and analysis on various issues in the City of Burlington – including voting rights in local elections (city council, school budget/board members) for Burlington residents who pay rent and taxes but don’t have U.S. citizenship.
Infinite volunteered years of service with a local youth group that a community of multicultural youth and young adults of Burlington, Vermont coming from various countries and backgrounds, whose mission is to increase youth voice, empowerment, potential, and opportunities in society and strive towards building a better future for ourselves and for many generations to come.
Infinite has been an active participant of the Neighborhood Planning Assembly (NPA) in Wards 2 and 3 for many years, and is a member of its steering committee.
For the past four and a half years, Infinite has worked as a community organizer with families in the Burlington and Winooski school districts that have historically lacked meaningful influence on political and economic decisions.
Every once in a while, you might hear Infinite on the radio at WRUV FM Burlington 90.1, with the love of his life in the background, knocking the dust off the turntables with tracks from 1973 to 2017.
