Info | Edwin Santana is a second generation Puerto Rican, a father, husband, son, engineer, USMC Officer and Logistics Consultant with a commitment to service and to the progressive ideals needed to secure a better future for all Virginians. As a candidate for Congress in Virginia’s 1st District, Edwin is continuing his public service by fighting for a single-payer healthcare system, strengthening of our public school system, securing economic opportunities and broadband internet access for all Americans, protecting the local environment, and bringing an end to our culture of sexual violence.
Edwin decided to run immediately after the 2016 Presidential election and announced his candidacy in January 2017. He then hit the ground running. If there’s anything we’ve seen and learned in the age of Donald Trump, it’s that unapologetic progressives can win anywhere, with a people-powered, back-to-basics strategy of going out where people live, talking to them, listening to them, being unapologetic about the progressive values we hold and fight for, and then organizing street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood and precinct by precinct.
Congress has made it painfully obvious that we need a new generation of leaders in Washington. Our country currently has a vacuum of leadership all the way from the White House down to Rob Wittman. Edwin Santana lives his life by the motto at USMC Officer Candidates School, ‘Ductus Exemplo’ or ‘lead by example’. America’s First District needs a Representative that will motivate their peers, work hard on behalf of the people, and make sound decisions under extreme pressure. We need a Representative who will show up and be held accountable, one who will meet constituents where they are and not hide when times are tough. It’s time to elect a congressman who will represent the interests of this district’s working families and not multinational corporations and special interests.
Edwin lives in Stafford County with his wife, son, and daughter.
