Info | Greg was born and raised in Watsonville by his Croatian-American parents, William and Pauline Caput, and graduated from Watsonville High School in 1968. He is also an alumnus of Cabrillo College and attended Santa Clara University where he attained his B.S. degree in Political Science. He later graduated from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, California, earning his Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1978.
As a youngster, Greg cut lettuce in the summers and later packed and loaded chives in the Pajaro Valley. He served in the National Guard and Army Reserve between the years of 1970 and 1978. Greg also has a history of humanitarian and community service work, having worked with the Volunteer In Service to America (VISTA) program in Omaha, Nebraska, as a community organizer; the Salesians of Saint Don Basco in Medellin, Columbia, as a youth outreach coordinator; and the San Pablo Boys and Girls Club in Richmond, California, as program director and later executive director.
In addition to managing his painting company, Greg has spent the last decade devoting most of his time to the Penny Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Lions Club and Little League baseball. Greg also served on the Watsonville City Council from November, 2006, until November, 2010, where he helped to amend affordable housing guidelines to include persons of low-income status and addressed a number of traffic issues, including the creation of sun-powered speed feedback signs around schools.
Greg and his wife Carmen are the proud parents of five children, including son Roberto and daughters Pauline, Christine, Claire and Lorraine.
