InfoGregg Johnson is a lifelong resident of Rock Island County. He spent the first 10 years of his life in the Longview District of Rock Island before moving to rural Milan in 1974. He graduated from Rockridge High School in 1982. In July of 1983, Gregg was hired into the Department of Corrections and served his first 14 years as a Correctional Officer. In 1997, he was promoted into the Business Office as a Supply Supervisor until his retirement in 2014.

A 34 year member of AFSCME Local 46, Gregg spent multiple years as an Executive Board member and Chief Steward before being elected President of the Local in 2010. Gregg also served as Chairman of the Illinois Quad Cities Political Action Committee for AFSCME for five years until his retirement.

Today, Gregg resides in East Moline with his wife, Celia, and his two daughters. Gregg has a passion for community involvement and a strong desire to lead by example. He believes in a level playing for all and, accordingly, has spent more than three decades fighting to lift up middle-class families by pressing for good wages, health care benefits, and a safe and secure retirement for all.

Gregg developed his strong work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles from watching his father, the best role model he could have had. His father worked tirelessly on the production line at Farmall to support Gregg and his siblings. Gregg firmly believes results can only be achieved through hard work and good faith negotiation and compromise. As your next Illinois State Senator, Gregg is committed to bringing that kind of leadership and accountability to Springfield on behalf of the citizens of the 36th District.
