Info | URNER, Milton George, (uncle of James Samuel Simmons), a Representative from Maryland; born in the Liberty district, Frederick County, Md., July 29, 1839; attended the common schools, Freeland Seminary, Montgomery County, Pa., and Dickinson Seminary, Williamsport, Pa.; engaged in teaching in his native county 1859-1862; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1863 and commenced practice in Frederick, Md.; State’s attorney for Frederick County 1871-1875; elected as a Republican to the Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses (March 4, 1879-March 3, 1883); chairman, Committee on Accounts (Forty-seventh Congress); was not a candidate for renomination in 1882; resumed the practice of his profession in Frederick, Md.; became local attorney for the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. in 1887; member of the State senate 1888-1890; appointed naval officer at the port of Baltimore by President Harrison in 1890; engaged in banking and other business enterprises; trustee of several educational institutions; died in Frederick, Md., February 9, 1926; interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery
