Info | Mike Meister has deep roots in Nebraska. He also has extensive legal experiences needed to be an effective attorney general.
Mike was born in Omaha January 17, 1961 and lived in Kimball for his first seven years before his family moved to Scottsbluff. Meister completed elementary, junior high and high school in Scottsbluff.
He earned his B.A. and J.D. from Creighton University and was sworn into the practice of law in 1986 in the Nebraska Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska.
In the subsequent months, he entered the Army and attended The Judge Advocate Basic Course at Charlottesville, Virginia.
Upon graduation, Mike was assigned to 1st Armored Division, with duty at Grafenwoehr Training Area, Grafenwoehr, Germany. He served as prosecuting attorney, claims attorney and legal assistance attorney.
Upon completion of two years at Grafenwoehr, he was assigned to U.S. Army V Corps with duty at Wildflecken, Germany as the Officer in Charge of the Wildflecken Law Center in March 1989. There he supervised one attorney and seven legal specialists, and provided all legal support for the command to include prosecution of criminal actions, processing of all administrative law actions. He also had oversight of the claims and legal assistance sections.
Mike was reassigned to be Chief, Criminal Law Division Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, 10th Mountain Division, Light Infantry, where he provided oversight of all criminal matters occurring within the Division and on Fort Drum and supervised four attorneys and forty-three legal specialists in the execution of these duties.
In 1992, Mike left active duty to return to Scottsbluff to practice law with his father, Harry R. Meister, and his law partner Samuel W. Segrist, the law firm where he currently practices.
Mike is past president of the Gering Jaycees, a member of American Legion Post 36, the Nebraska Bar Association, the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys, the American Bar Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
He has volunteered in the Lincoln Heights Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, as an AYSO Soccer Coach/Referee, and as a youth baseball coach.
Mike and his wife, Julie, of Imperial, Nebraska, were married on September 20, 1986. Julie was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska and grew up in Halsey and Valentine. They have three children, Molly, 11, Ryan, 8, and Morgan, 4.
