InfoI am a recently retired chemical engineer who spent 37 years in industry solving problems, designing things that have to work, and making things more efficient. I confirmed through the opportunity that I had to travel extensively worldwide in my last job that the U.S. is by far the greatest country in the world. We need to keep it that way.

I have been married to my wife Beth, who is a middle school math teacher, for 33 years and we have three grown children. My motivation to run for the House seat in the 14th Congressional District of Illinois, where my family has lived since 2008, is that I do not want our children to grow up in a world where there is no middle class, where the government is broke, and where the environment of the planet is being destroyed. I feel I have been very fortunate in my life and career and like many of you, I feel that something needs to be done to change what is going on.

Before 2017, politics had not been on my priority list. Recently I felt a calling, based on what we all see going on in Washington, to use what I learned in my career as an engineer to help fix our problems and change the direction that our country is heading in. We need to return to the principles that made us great for 250 years – trust in God, integrity, responsibility, common sense, and compassion.

In particular, as an engineer you realize that you have to make decisions based on facts and data rather than ideology. If you make decisions based on extreme ideology, alt-facts, or no facts at all, you will try to solve problems that don’t exist and come up with solutions that don’t work. If a bridge is designed wrong it will collapse, no matter how nice it looks or how much people talk about it. You can’t fool Mother Nature.

My parents were immigrants from Europe. My father spent his career working on an assembly line in an automobile engine plant to provide us with what was then a middle-class lifestyle. Those types of jobs have now been automated in a trend that will continue to accelerate. We will need new, open-minded leadership to make sure that everyone benefits from our increased productivity, not just the shareholders.

I am passionate about what I do and I will vigorously fight our closed-minded representatives in Washington to fix our easily solvable problems and to bring prosperity back to our middle class.
