InfoSusan Rose brings thirty years of experience to the job of County Supervisor. She has a broad background in the public sector, education, community service and business. Susan has held management positions in city and county government, directed a local non-profit, and served as a commissioner for the Fair Employment and Housing Commission, California's civil rights agency. During the course of her career in local government, she has trained employees in Affirmative Action, worked as a budget analyst, as an assistant to the chief of a city Fire Department, and as manager of a human services program.
Three generations of Susan's family live in Santa Barbara, and she has dedicated her energy to working for families and children, for environmental quality, planned growth, education, and the arts. Susan was a founding member and past President of the Santa Barbara Women's Political Committee, served on the board of the Contemporary Arts Forum, and currently serves on the advisory board of the Fund for Santa Barbara, SummerDance and the Rape Crisis Center. Susan holds membership in a variety of community organizations including the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce.

As a current member of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, serving her second term, Susan is committed to providing accessible representation for the second district, meeting the needs of neighborhoods, and ensuring the environmental health and quality of life of our community. Key priorities for this year include providing more affordable and workforce housing, preserving open space and restoring natural resources.

This year, Susan will serve as chair of Beach Erosion Authority for Clean Oceans and Nourishment (BEACON), chair of the City/County Homeless Advisory Committee, and co-chair of the Joint City/County Affordable Housing Task Group. She serves as vice-chair of the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) and of the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG). Susan also represents SBCAG on the Santa Barbara/Ventura Interregional Jobs/Housing Partnership. She is a member of the County Legislative Committee and the County Debt Advisory Committee (DAC).

Susan received her B.A. from Connecticut College and holds two Masters Degrees, one in American History and another in Public Administration. She is a graduate of the prestigious Coro Foundation Public Policy Training Program. Susan is married to attorney Allan Ghitterman and has five children and eight grandchildren.
