InfoSteve was born in 1964 at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. His parents soon moved to Santa Maria where Steve spent his early years attending local public schools. In 1982, he graduated as valedictorian from Maria Regina Academy in Spokane, Washington, and immediately moved to warmer weather in Phoenix where he amassed 15 years of experience in the aerospace industry. In 1998, Steve returned to Santa Maria to be closer to his father who was recovering from some health issues. Steve purchased his father's childhood home on Speed Street and lives there with his beautiful wife Marian.

Back in Santa Maria, Steve became a senior level government staff assistant for 13 years, spending the last six years with Congressman Elton Gallegly as his Deputy Chief of Staff. During his tenure with Congressman Gallegly, Steve spent a lot of time with our youth, particularly those applying to service academies. In his six years, Steve helped close to 60 young men and women receive appointments to our nation's prestigious academies. Because of his commitment level, the U.S. Military Academy named him an Honorary Admissions Officer and bestowed on him the title of "Friend of West Point."

In June 2010, Steve ran on a platform of fiscal responsibility and public safety and was elected by the voters to become the Supervisor for Santa Barbara County's Fifth District, also winning subsquent elections in 2014 and 2018. He began his tenure by moving to halt construction of a proposed $6.1M new County Administration building in Santa Maria, freeing the money to be spent on other, more worthwhile County projects. Next, he focused on gaining approval for the badly needed North County Jail, currently under construction and slated to open in fall 2019. From there he championed a shift in funding to allow our Fire Department to be financially independent for the first time and most recently Steve collaborated with his colleague Supervisor Williams to establish regulations for recreational cannabis.

Steve is also the driving force behind Santa Barbara County's annual Veterans Stand Down event aimed at providing homeless and near homeless veterans all the services they need to reconnect to the community. For his work on Stand Down he was named Elks Citizen of the year in 2013.

In his spare time, Steve and Marian love to play golf and spend time with their seven grandchildren.
