| Info | Christel Truglia was first elected to represent the 145th District in the Connecticut General Assembly in 1988 and she has been re-elected every two years since. She has served with distinction, amassing legislative experience and community initiatives too numerous to list. Since the death of her husband, State Senator Anthony D. Truglia, Christel Truglia�s advocacy has included the broadest sweep of our population � from human services for our children to the need of our aging seniors.
Appointed Assistant Majority Leader in 1995, Representative Truglia has served on a wide range of legislative committees including the Appropriations Committee and its four subcommittees, the Human Services Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the Committee on Substance Abuse prevention. She also has served as Vice Chairperson of the Select Committee on Housing and Children.
She has served on numerous task forces including the Children At-Risk Task Force, the Managed Care Working Group, the Long-Term Care Working Group, and the Mental Health for Children Working Group, to name a few.
Rep. Truglia is one of the key legislators to push for laws promoting the well being of Connecticut�s children, including the expansion of Medicaid coverage for children and for residential intervention facilities for youth in crisis as well as quality health care.
As Founder and Chairperson of the Truglia Thumbelina Fund, Rep. Truglia creates a Fund that responds to the needs of our children when no other source is available. Christel Truglia�s work has been distinguished by her vision and compassion, and recognized by numerous awards and honors. Highlights of her public service career include a private audience with the late Mother Teresa and receiving the Cross of Jerusalem from Pope John Paul II.
She was named Citizen of the Year in 1982 and also received the 1994 Distinguished Service Award from the Connecticut Department of Housing. In 1996 she was name Child Care Champion for the State of Connecticut and Legislator of the Year by the Hospice Council of Connecticut. She has also been recognized for her work by the Coalition of 100 Black Women of Lower Fairfield County, End Hunger, Inc. of Connecticut and the Nation Association for the Mentally Ill.
Throughout the City of Stamford and across the state, whenever Christel Truglia�s name is mentioned everyone remembers the same qualities: accessibility, compassion, commitment, hard work, and a soft-spoken determination to get the job done.
