| Info | State Representative Joseph Mioli was born on March 18, 1938 in the Town of Santa Teresa di Riva, Province of Messina, Italy where he also graduated from High School. The son of an American mother and an Italian Father, Representative Mioli was born an American citizen. He entered the United States at the Port of New York on March 18, 1959, his 21st birthday.
Representative Mioli was drafted into the United States Army in July 1962. He served for two years and was honorably discharged in 1964. After his stint in the army, he worked in White Plains N.Y. for the County Trust Company, now part of the Bank of New York. In 1968 his brother Mel and he co-founded and ran the Westport Pizzeria. He has been serving the citizens of Westport without interruption ever since.
When his two children were young, Representative Mioli volunteered and was active with the Boy Scouts and the YMCA Indian Princess programs in Fairfield. He is a life member of the American Legion post #143, a life member of the United States Power Squadron, a member of the AARP, and a founding member of Westport's Downtown Merchants Association. Representative Mioli is also a life member of the Fayerweather Yacht Club, and a member of the Minuteman Yacht Club.
In 2003 Representative Mioli was elected to the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) in Westport serving on three committees before resigning in early 2005. Elected as the state representative for the 136th District in November 2004, Speaker Jim Amann appointed Representative Mioli to the Commerce, Environment and Transportation Committees.
Representative Mioli wants to ensure that the voices of Westport's self-employed and small business people are heard at the State General Assembly. After thirty-four years running the pizzeria, and listening to Westport's residents, his friends and neighbors, Rep. Mioli is in-tune with Westport, its needs and concerns.
Today, Representative Mioli is a proud grandfather and except for when he baby-sits for his grandchildren, representing Westport in Hartford is his only job, and it receives his full attention and effort.
