Info | Albert Tomsic was born on April 26, 1925, in Delagua, Colorado. He was educated in the public schools of Walsenburg before attending the University of Colorado. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946, and returned to graduate with a B.A. degree from the University of Colorado in 1948. Three years later he earned a law degree from the same university. Tomsic was admitted to the bar in 1951. He then began a legal practice in Walsenburg and became a member of the Southern Colorado and the Colorado Bar associations.
While practicing law, Tomsic was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives for the first time in 1952. He served in this office consecutively from 1953 to 1962. He also served as county attorney for Huerfano County from 1957 to 1964 and as an assistant district attorney for the Third Judicial District in 1958. In 1957, he was elected House Majority Leader. His election marked the first time in 20 years that the position had been occupied by a Democrat. During his last term in the legislature, he was selected Speaker of the House.
In 1962, he did not vie for re-election, but ran against J. Edgar Chenoweth for the Third Congressional District seat in the UnitedStates House of Representatives, and was defeated. Beginning In 1965, Tomsic served as a judge in the Third Judicial District and remained in that position until 1985. He passed away in Walsenburg Colorado on July 7, 2012.
