Born 3/9/1853 in Pittsburgh PA; son of Conrad Remmel, a German glass blower.

Began working in Atterbury's Glass Factory at age 11 (1864)

Became a glass blower 1871 and continued in the trade until his death.

Joined the Knights of Labor 1876

Helped found the American Federation of Glass Workers Union 1879

Delegate to the American Federation of Trades 1881

Married Jennie Harlan 6/3/1889

Joined the Socialist Labor Party in 1895.

Candidate for Mayor (SLP-Pittsburgh) c. 1896

Candidate for Superior court judge (SLP-PA) 1899

Remmel was the candidate for Vice-President on the ticket of the Socialist Labor Party, 1900. He had run for the nomination for President but was defeated by Joseph Maloney.

Left SLP between 1900 and 1910.
