McArdle and served from May 19, 1942, to January 3, 1943; was not a candidate for renomination in 1942; served as a major in the European Theater of Operations during the Second World War; member of the State senate 1943-1956; elected to the Eighty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Vera Buchanan; reelected to the Eighty-fifth and the five succeeding Congresses and served from January 24, 1956, until his death in Annapolis, Md., August 9, 1968; interment in Arlington National Cemetery.
