Info | Lois Irene (Kimsey) Marshall was the wife of Thomas R. Marshall and served as Second Lady of the United States from 1913 to 1921.
Daughter of William Edward Kimsey and Elizabeth Dale; born in Salem Center IN on 5/9/1873. Her father ran a general store and post office in Salem Center, then served as county clerk 1887-1895. During his clerkship, Lois served as deputy, where she met Thomas Marshall. When he proposed, she made out their marriage license.
She married Marshall on 10/2/1895. He was 19 years her senior. She served as First Lady of Indiana during her husband's Governorship (1909-1913) and then as Second Lady of the United States 1913-1921.
Thomas Marshall died in 1925, and three years later Lois moved to Phoenix AZ where she had family including a brother and two double first cousins. She died there on 1/6/1958.
