Beauford Jester in November 1948 judge of the Thirtieth District Court, subsequently elected in 1950, and served until September 8, 1951; delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1956, 1960, and 1968; chairman, Texas State Democratic convention, 1960; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Ed Gossett; reelected to the Eighty-third and to the four succeeding Congresses and served from September 8, 1951, to December 15, 1961, when he resigned; executive vice president of American Petroleum Institute, 1962-1963, president, 1963-1980; resumed the practice of law in Washington, D.C.; was a resident of Washington until his death there on May 1, 1991.
