InfoMy name is Douglas G. Deffenbaugh and I am a candidate in the March 9th Republican primary for Texas Railroad Commissioner. I am a 22-year member of the oil and gas industry, having owned natural gas gathering lines, and working interests in many oil and gas wells (as well as several dry holes). I currently own a chart integration company, Alamo Precision Services, Inc, where we process over 18,000 charts a month.

I recently began a foray into the political arena, when I was a candidate in the last Republican primary for the U.S. Senate. I believe that we cannot leave government in the hands of only professional politicians, who have forgotten how the real world lives.

My opponent has spent most of his career in government, and has never run in a statewide race. The Railroad Commission (RRC) is too important to the oil and gas industry to risk losing it to big-government politicians in the fall election.

When Republicans finally come to power in government, we have to aggressively rollback decades of big government liberalism. We must govern in a visibly different way to win the hearts and minds of independent swing voters as well as long-time Republican loyalists. I am proposing the following:

1. For those industry members who have a solid history as a responsible operator, they should receive a designation as a "Responsible Operator" and be exempted from certain rules and regulations of the RRC.

2. The RRC should work with the Legislature to eliminate or cap severance taxes and property taxes to allow more capital to remain in the industry for future drilling.

3. The RRC should promote job growth in the oil and gas industry by reducing regulation and taxes. The RRC needs to focus on helping the industry, not hurting it with excessive regulation. For Texas oil and gas to remain competitive in the world marketplace, government must reduce the costly burden that it places on the industry from every rule and every regulation it promulgates.

4. The RRC should allow private industry to handle the research and development of alternative energy sources. These sources need to be profitable in the marketplace on their own merit, not subsidized by government.

If you want to change the RRC, I will work hard to that end. I need the financial and political support of industry members, regardless of your political affiliation. I urge you to contribute financially and through a more active participation in the political process. If you would like to help work the polls or want more campaign literature for distribution, please contact me.

I have benefited greatly in my career from the greatest industry in the greatest state in the country, and I want to give back now by serving that industry. I look forward to hearing from you.
