InfoBob Godfrey is the State Representative from the 110th district in Danbury. The eighth-term Democrat serves as Deputy Majority Leader, chairman of the House Democrats' Bill Review Committee, and as a member of the Judiciary Committee, the Legislative Management Committee, and the Public Safety Committee. He chairs the subcommittee on Information Technology, which has been responsible for opening the General Assembly to increased public access via the internet, and he is a member of the United States Internet Council (www.usinternetcouncil.org). He chairs the television subcommittee which facilitated the creation of The Connecticut Network (www.ctn.state.ct.us) to provide daily cable TV coverage of state government. He is active in the Council of State Governments (www.csg.org), serving on its legal task force monitoring and intervening in U.S. Supreme Court cases which may impact state sovereignty, its intergovernmental affairs committee, and its strategic planning committee.

Since his first election in 1988, he has been recognized as a state leader for anti-crime and anti-violence legislation. He is most proud of four laws:

1990's Kids and Guns Act for which he was named "Champion of Children" by the Connecticut Coalition for Children;

1993's Assault Weapons Ban, for which he was named "legislator of the year" by the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association;

1994's Firearms Crimes and Sales Act for which he was recognized by the Connecticut Coalition Against Gun Violence; and

1996's constitutional amendment to guarantee protections for crime victims.

His other efforts include health care and health insurance reform measures, protection against violence for women, ballot access and campaign finance reform, and the creation of Connecticut's "living will."

Bob was born in Danbury in 1948, and has lived there all his life. He attended St. Peter's and Immaculate High Schools. He holds a bachelors degree from Fordham University, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is an attorney.

In the past, Bob served in the U.S. Naval Reserve; held staff positions and interned with the General Assembly; and was an executive with the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce. Previous to his election to the House, he served for five years on Danbury's Common Council.
