InfoMary Ann Carson was first elected in a four way special election held in March of 1999 and was re-elected to a third term in 2002 to represent the 108th State Legislative District. The 108th district includes the majority of New Fairfield, sections of New Milford and the towns of Kent and Sherman.

A resident of New Fairfield, Mary Ann served as the town?s Registrar of Voters for twenty years. She currently serves as Ranking Member (Republican Leader) on the Legislature?s Public Health Committee. She also serves as a member of the Legislature?s tax-writing Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and the General Law Committee.

As member of the Public Health Committee, Representative Carson initiated legislation requiring the Department of Public Health to adopt regulations setting statewide standards for the certification of emergency medical service personnel including paramedics, EMS instructors and medical response technicians. The legislation signed into law last year will ensure the same level of emergency care is available throughout the state.

Representative Carson is a strong advocate for smaller, more efficient government, improving education and health care reform. In addition, she continues to prioritize local issues such as the future of Candlewood Lake, addressing traffic issues on Route 7 and the passage of the Underground Storage Tank Amnesty Program to assist constituent homeowners.

She has a long history of community involvement dedicating literally thousands of hours as President, Vice-President and member of the Parent Teacher Organizations for Consolidated and Meeting House Hill Schools. Mary Ann was the first recipient of the Jayceette of the Year in 1980 and was nominated by the New Fairfield Jaycees Keywoman of the Year.

Representative Carson has served as a research volunteer for the American Cancer Society. For 10 years she served as a Volunteer Coordinator for the Special Olympics in conjunction with the New Fairfield Jaycees. She helped orchestrate Welcome Home the Troops following the Persian Gulf War and assisted with the New Fairfield Host Committee during the 1995 Special Olympics World Games held in New Haven. Currently, she serves as the Chairman of the Board of Deacons at the Congregational Church of New Fairfield.

Mary Ann is married to Doug Carson, Jr. They have two grown daughters.
