| Info | John is the father of three kids who work hard in school and have great hearts. He and his wife, Karen work several jobs to provide for them. They are active in their church and as volunteers and activists in the community. Like other working families, they sometimes struggle to meet their bills, to put quality meals on the table, to keep up with household chores and to pay tuition for their kids’ education.
As a board member and president of Illinois Stewardship Alliance, John helped to transform a small non-profit into an effective, growing organization that works well with legislators from both parties. Today, Illinois Stewardship Alliance works hard to get fresh, local foods into the hands of the people of Illinois and to support small, family farms and agricultural practices that make Illinois a better place to live.
As an educator, John has always developed close relationships with his students and worked hard to design innovative and practical curricula for his classrooms in Beardstown, Table Grove and at Western Illinois University. He has also worked with students studying to earn their GEDs in Macomb and Bushnell.
n 2003, John and Karen created an innovative and popular farm-to-table gardening business called Barefoot Gardens CSA. Today, Barefoot Gardens provides fresh and local organic produce, flowers, herbs and berries to 150 members in West Central Illinois. In their spring garden workshops at Barefoot Gardens, they train people from around the region how to become successful gardeners and small scale farmers.
