Doug Gallagher was born in 1949 in Wilmington Delaware. He is the third son of eight children. In 1971, Doug graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Psychology and an Economics minor. In 1974, Doug earned a Masters Degree in Real Estate from the Florida International University. In his first 10 years following graduation from college, Doug worked as a Mortgage Broker, Real Estate Broker and Banker for AmeriFirst Federal.
In 1974, Doug's younger brother Dennis passed away from diabetic complications. Since that time, Doug has remarkably dedicated 30 years of his life to finding a cure for diabetes through the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami's School of Medicine where he has helped raise over $80 million. He has served as the President, Vice Chairman of the Board and a member of the Board of Directors.
In 1985, Doug and his wife Sue founded Gallagher Financial Systems with only $14,000 borrowed from a 401K plan and grew the company into one of the most successful software development companies for mortgage loan origination solutions. Gallagher Financial Systems will have revenues of more than $30 million in 2004 alone and currently employs 167 people.
Doug resides in Coral Gables, Florida with his wife Sue of 31 years and four sons: Steven, Michael, Andrew and Brian.
