InfoJim Mangia has been an independent political and social activist for over 20 years. A seasoned community and political organizer, Mangia has been involved in some 30 electoral campaigns on behalf of independent candidates running for every level of office; from City Council to County Commissioner, from Governor to President of the United States.

Mangia is also an activist who has been building independent not-for-profit programs to fight poverty and support free healthcare for children. He has raised millions of dollars for community-based charities and organizations, and is a published author on subjects as diverse as civil and human rights, independent politics, promoting free healthcare, building bridges between diverse constituencies in American politics, foreign policy reform and eradicating poverty.

Three times an independent candidate himself: Mangia received over 75,000 votes statewide as the Reform Party's candidate for Lt. Governor in 1998. He has worked tirelessly to build a major third party in California and nationally since the early 80's and was the founding National Secretary of the Reform Party of the United States of America. In 2000, Mangia led the fight within the Reform Party against the illegal attempt by Pat Buchanan to hyjack the party and transform it into a social conservative organization.

Mangia serves on the Steering Committee of the Figueroa Corridor Coalition for Economic Justice in downtown Los Angeles, which recently negotiated a community-benefits package with the Staples Arena. The package guaranteed affordable housing, jobs and training to residents of the neighborhoods surrounding the Staples Center.

Jim Mangia is the founder of the Coalition for Political Reform (CPR), a grouping of third parties, good government and community-based organizations in California to fight for political reform issues and against the influence of special interest money in our political process. The Coalition for Political Reform supports campaign finance reform, same-day voter registration, national initiative and referendum and term limits. The Coalition recently held major press conferences in Los Angeles following an investigation they conducted which resulted in fines, legal challenges and legislation instituted by the Los Angeles Ethics Commission to reform elections in the city. CPR found that during the LA mayoral campaign, lobbyists and law firms representing businesses with contracts before the city had contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the candidates in violation of city law.

Currently, Jim Mangia is the Executive Director of St. John's Well Child Center, a network of free medical and dental clinics for children in central, downtown and south central Los Angeles. The clinics serve over 30,000 children each year from birth to 18 years of age. Mangia is a professional fundraiser and grantwriter who raises millions of dollars each year for non-profit organizations and charities. He is currently the volunteer Development Director for St. John's Episcopal Church in south central Los Angeles. He has raised money for a food bank for poor families, an after-school program for high-risk youth and a housing program for the mentally ill.

Mangia is the President of the Board of Directors of the Coalition for Community Health, a consortium of more than 40 community clinics and health outreach organizations in central and south Los Angeles. He was appointed by the City Council to the West Hollywood Election Reform Task Force in 1998, a commission chartered with reforming West Hollywood's election process to ensure greater participation by the voters.

Jim Mangia was born in Brooklyn, New York and currently resides in West Hollywood, California.
