| Info | Bob Poe is a successful entrepreneur, broadcaster, accomplished artist and long-time philanthropist. What people don’t know is that the story of Bob’s success has humble beginnings and originates, right here, in Orlando. Bob has a long history in our community.
More than 45 years ago, he got his first job when the owners of a Pine Hills gas station hired him to pump gas for a dollar an hour. It was during that time, in this very community, that Bob first learned about the values of hard work and good customer service. It is that same strong work ethic that has guided Bob and enabled him to become a successful, self-made businessman.
A college drop out, Bob learned how to get ahead by working hard despite the odds working against him. For more than 30 years, Bob has managed the strategic planning process and implementation for several start-up companies in a variety of business sectors. Bob was a part of the management team that started the Orlando Magic, Central Florida’s NBA franchise, where he was Director of Broadcasting and Sponsorship Sales. When everyone doubted what was possible, Bob and the leadership team at the Orlando Magic built a franchise that rivaled some of the longest standing sports teams in the business and today our community rallies around our hometown team.
Serving as the President of Emergency Communications Network, Inc. (ENC), Bob was instrumental in building the nation’s leader in critical communications infrastructure that allows municipal governments the ability to rapidly communicate with their residents in times of emergencies.
Throughout his life, Bob has taken on challenging projects and worked against the odds. Giving back to the community has been a priority for Bob throughout his adult life. In 2011 Bob founded the Bob Poe Charitable Foundation, which focuses on the arts, spiritual development and progressive political education. It is this desire to make our community a better place that has driven Bob to serve his community. In the 2000 and 2002 election cycles, Bob served as the Florida Democratic Party chairman and in 2012 he was the Central Florida Finance Chair for the Obama campaign. Bob has a daughter, Virginia, and lives in Orlando with his spouse, Ken Brown, where they are members of the Joy Metropolitan Community Church.
