InfoDaniel Berrigan was born in Virginia, Minnesota, in 1921. He was educated at Woodstock College, Baltimore and Weston (Jesuit) Seminary, Massachusetts. In 1952 he was ordained a Catholic Priest and taught French, English and Latin at St Peter's Preparatory School, New Jersey from 1945-49. He worked as assistant editor on the Jesuit Missions, New York from 1963-1965 and in 1968 he was jailed for anti-war activities. The Trial Of the Catonsville brought Berrigan to world wide attention and his prison journals were among the eloquent publications of the last years of the sixties. Berrigan remains a Roman Catholic and a Jesuit, he is less active in poetry writing now and more active in building a society that can be honestly celebrated in poetry. He currently lives in New York.
