About Lori

Lori has worked at the local, state, national and international level for over a decade. She has served as a volunteer with non-profit organizations, an educator in the San Diego Community College District, and as Mayoral and Presidential appointees to governmental organizations, including:

* President Clinton's appointee to the Border Environment Cooperation Commission's Advisory Council (1999) to review, plan and fund water quality improvement projects in San Diego and Tijuana. Served as United States Co-Chair of Advisory Council. The result: Over $60 million invested in local potable water, reclamation and sewage treatment projects, and cleaner water at the US-Mexico border. As Assembly member, Lori will continue working with Mexico.
* Sierra Club, San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter: Past Chapter Chair, Legal Committee Chair and Political Committee Chair. Recipient of the Sierra Club's "Conservation Activist of the Year" Award (1995), and Sierra Club's Special Achievement Award for Conservation Activities (1999).
* Chairwoman, City of San Diego Wetlands Advisory Board for the City of San Diego (1992-94).
* Member, San Diego Earth Day original Board of Directors that created the first "Earth Fair" event in Balboa Park (1989-90).

As an educator with the San Diego Community College District:
* Lori Saldana has been a classroom teacher and community college professor for over 20 years.
* Associate Professor, Business Information Technology.
* Manager of a $1.5 million Technology Workforce Development grant for the San Diego Community College District (2001). The result: Designed 3 new computer labs and created new multimedia and technology training programs for young students at risk of dropping out of school. Lori will work to protect funds for these programs.
* Associate Dean, Director of Service Learning Program at Mesa College (2002): Lori arranged for students to work with dozens of community volunteer organizations while earning college credit.
* Developer and Manager of educational and technical job skills programs.
* Coached field hockey at Clairemont and Madison High Schools, and was a women's basket ball coach at San Diego City College.

Lori is committed to improving the quality of life for San Diegans by developing technology-based educational programs and vocational skills training, investing in infrastructure programs that will support our economy, while supporting environmental protection and water quality improvements.
