InfoA resident of Laguna Niguel since its creation, Councilwoman Mimi Walters has a wealth of experience and a record of impressive results in business, government and politics.

In 1984, Mimi received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from UCLA. During her college years, she was active in politics both on and off campus and spent a semester as an intern on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

After college, Mimi joined the firm of Drexel, Burnham & Lambert as an Investment Executive and subsequently joined Kidder Peabody & Company.

Mimi began her service on the Laguna Niguel City Council in 1996. She served as Mayor in 2000. Councilwoman Walters is a leading voice for fiscally responsible government and local control. As a Director of the El Toro Reuse Planning Authority (ETRPA), Mimi helped defeat efforts to convert the El Toro Marine Air Base into a commercial airport. She was named Chair of ETRPA in January of 2003.

Mimi is a founder of the California Women?s Leadership Association and has served on the Boards of the National Association of Women Business Owners, the Laguna Niguel Republican Women Federated, the American Cancer Society, and the South Coast Medical Center Foundation.

The Orange County Republican Party named Mimi "Local Elected Official of the Year" in 1997 and "Volunteer of the Year" in 1998.

Long active in Republican politics, Mimi was a key supporter of Pat Bates in her campaign for Assembly in 1998 and has served as a volunteer and fundraiser for many winning Republican candidates, including President George W. Bush and Congressman Chris Cox.

Mimi was Orange County Co-Chair for Rescue California, the recall of Governor Gray Davis. Her leadership was very effective in bringing Orange County voters to the "Join Arnold" campaign and in electing our new Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
