When the Indianapolis street car workers went on strike in 1913, Ralston called out the militia to keep order. The striking workers gathered at the Governor's mansion to confront Ralston, who came out and gave his reasons for his actions. The workers cheered Ralston's speech and called off the strike.

US Senator (D-IN) 1923-1925 (died in office).

Dark horse candidate for US President, 1924. The Indiana Democratic Party wanted Ralston to run, but he stated that he did not want the position. During the deadlocked convention, Gov. Smith also inquired into Ralston's availability.

Ralston left Washington DC in 3/1925 and suffered from poor health all year. His doctors restricted him to his bed on 9/5/1925. [New York Times 10/13/1925]
