| Info | Chris Cummiskey provides counsel and leadership on all activities and matters involving homeland security initiatives, operations, and programs to the Under Secretary for Management within the Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Cummiskey advises on the formulation of strategic plans and policies for management programs within DHS related to the human capital, administration, security, finance, information, and procurement lines of business. He represents the Under Secretary on management policies and long- and short-term programs having a DHS-wide, national, and international impact. Mr. Cummiskey provides executive level support to the Under Secretary’s subordinate managers in resolving disputes concerning program priorities, direction, and courses of action.
Prior to joining DHS, Mr. Cummiskey was the Chief Information Officer for the State of Arizona. Appointed in January, 2003, by Governor Janet Napolitano, Mr. Cummiskey advanced the Governor’s agenda of innovation and government transformation through the use of technology. Mr. Cummiskey chaired several key executive initiatives including the Governor’s Council on 2-1-1, the Governor’s IT Security Advisory Committee, the Arizona Steering Committee on Education Data and the State’s Information Technology Authorization Committee. In addition to serving as a member of the Governor’s Cabinet, Mr. Cummiskey also served on the Governor’s Homeland Security and Children’s Sub Cabinet groups.
Mr. Cummiskey was elected to the Arizona State Legislature at the age of 26 and served in the House and Senate from 1991 through 2002. During his tenure in the Senate, Mr. Cummiskey held many leadership posts including that of Assistant Floor Leader. As a Senator, he was a recognized leader in the promotion of E-government and the New Economy.

Chris Cummiskey has been a force for positive change in the state legislature for the last twelve years. Most recently, he has received national recognition as one of the prime architects of the historic responsibility sharing agreement in the evenly divided state senate.
Chris has been a leader in key policy areas such as school violence prevention, affordable prescription drugs for senior citizens, neighborhood revitalization and election reform.
Chris and his family moved to Phoenix from Connecticut in 1976. He graduated from Brophy College Prep in 1983 and went on to receive a degree in Communication from Arizona State University in 1987.
After graduation, Chris started his own consulting firm which specialized in strategic planning and marketing. It was this experience that led him back to his Alma Mater, Brophy Prep, in 1988. Chris became the school�s first Director of Alumni Relations, a position he held for five years.
In 1989, Chris and his future wife, Victoria, began walking door to door in Central Phoenix to gauge community support for a potential run for the legislature. Chris and Victoria knocked on an estimated 13,000 doors. This commitment to grass roots, personal contact paid off as Chris was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 1990 - unseating a well entrenched incumbent lawmaker.
Chris quickly gained a reputation as a problem solver who could work effectively with legislators from both parties. He was reelected to the House in 1992.
In 1994, Chris was elected to the Arizona State Senate. Since his election to the Senate, Chris has been a proven leader who has been successful in forging broad coalitions to address some of the most pressing issues facing Arizonans. Chris served as the Assistant Minority Leader from 1999-2000 and is presently the Assistant Senate Floor Leader.
Chris has been involved in numerous community organizations over the last two decades. Some of these groups have included: Valley Leadership Board of Directors, Arizona Town Hall, Valley Citizens League, Arizona State University Alumni Association, and the Arizona Interscholastic Association.
For the last seven years, Chris has been the Director of Development at Southwest Human Development, a children�s non-profit organization that specializes in providing community-based services to young children and their families.
Chris and Victoria have a eighteen month old daughter and a two month old son.
