InfoBob Allen was born in the Schuylkill County's largest municipality, Pottsville, that is the center of the 125th Legislative District that he represents today. His strong sense of family and community is inherited from his parents, the late Lloyd T. and Ethel Horn Allen.

Initially following in the family funeral business established by his father, Bob got his start in public service in the local contests that characterized Pottsville politics. He has since distinguished himself at the state level in both legislative and executive positions.

Bob Allen was elected mayor of the City of Pottsville in 1976 and held that post until 1981. After having helped to engineer Dick Thornburgh's upset victory for governor in 1979, Allen served in the Thornburgh administration, first as Legislative Liaison in what was then the Department of Environmental Resources (1983-85) and then as Deputy Secretary for Legislative Affairs (1985-86). Allen was elected to the House in November 1988 and has been returned to office six times.

Since first being elected to the House, Allen has been elevated to positions of ever-increasing responsibility in the Republican Caucus of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He is presently the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Services and Banking of the House Commerce and Economic Development Committee. He also serves on the Liquor Control, Professional Licensure and Intergovernmental Affairs committees, as well as the House Committee on Committees. Allen also is a member of the Pennsylvania East-Central Caucus.

Born on October 14, 1945, Allen graduated from Pottsville Area High School and continued his education, earning a BA degree in Business Administration from Lycoming College in 1968.

Allen is a former campaign chairman of the Schuylkill United Way and is active in a number of other civic and fraternal organizations. These include the Economic Development Council of Northeast Pennsylvania; Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville; Pulaski Lodge #216 F&AM, Pottsville; Caldwell Consistory, Valley of Bloomsburg, from which he was awarded the honorary 33rd Degree in Pittsburgh in September 2000; Rajah Shrine, Reading; and the Pottsville Lions Club.

Allen is married to the former Peggy Coyle, a middle school teacher in the Blue Mountain School District. The Allens have two children. Megan is a summa cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College and a Fulbright Scholarship winner. She is working for the EF Foundation in Boston, MA. Thomas graduated from Wake Forest University, with a degree in Finance and is now working for a financial services company in London, England.
