InfoAttorney & Ex-Altamonte Springs City Commissioner

Harry Jacobs has been recognized as one of the most effective advocates for people in Central Florida and in the legal field since 1975, fighting for injured citizens in a system that favors large corporate interests. He and his firm are an effective voice for thousands of families in the legal field.

Harry's energy and commitment to hard work started early. Growing up in Jersey City, NJ, he worked side-by-side with his parents in their small fish market. Here he learned the value of trust and respect for a community composed of people from all walks of life, of many faiths and many colors.

After leaving high school, Harry supported himself through college, with the help of government loans, and law school in Florida by working during the day and attending classes at night. He drove trucks, waited tables, coached football, taught in a public high school and clerked for a judge. Each experience deepened Harry's sensitivity and respect for others. Empowered with law degrees, he and his wife, Lauren, enthusiastically founded their law firm in Central Florida in 1976 with determination to begin their careers "righting wrongs."

Since the first day in private practice, Harry has continued to fight injustice, addressing human conditions with dignity, grace and an understanding that comes from many years of adversity and professional and personal experience. He led the fight to pass a law in Florida prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity and religion. If he sees problems, he finds opportunities to fix them. He has learned to listen and then develop strategies and goals for protection and equality.

Harry has contributed in many ways to this community: as former Vice Mayor of Altamonte Springs, former Altamonte Springs City Commissioner, past President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando, former General Chairman of the Combined Jewish Appeal of Greater Orlando, former Chairman of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, a member of the Board of Directors for the Seminole County Bar Association and is a recipient of the Frank Whigham Award for Community Service by the Seminole County Bar Association.

Harry's commitment carries to his family. He and his wife, Lauren, have been married for 27 years. He is very involved in the lives of his adult children (Nicole, Jessica, and Jill) and his two grandchildren.

Harry's devotion to this community and his family demonstrates the commitment he will bring to the United States Congress. As a resident of Seminole County for 26 years, Harry understands what is important to the people of the 24th district. He is committed to providing quality, affordable health care to all Americans, making sure that Social Security is there for future generations, that Medicare has a real prescription drug benefit, and that the environment is protected and preserved for all.
