Caroline Carmichael McIntosh became the second wife of the thirteenth president, Millard Fillmore. Before she became the First Lady, she wrote remedy and recipe books. Caroline McIntosh was a wealthy widow who insisted on a prenuptial agreement before marrying Fillmore so that her money would remain in her own name. The couple married in 1858.
