Info | born in Dormont Borough, Allegheny County, Pa., March 1, 1903; attended the public schools in South Hills and the Fine Arts Department of Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pa.; was graduated from Pennsylvania State College at State College in 1924 and from Harvard Law School, Doctor of Laws, 1927; was admitted to the bar in 1928 and commenced practice in Pittsburgh, Pa.; also engaged in agricultural pursuits; member of the Allegheny County Board of Law Examiners 1934-1942; served in the State senate in 1939 and 1940; solicitor for Dormont Borough in 1942; publisher of the Mount Lebanon (Pa.) News and several other newspapers; enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1942 and served in the South Pacific as a lieutenant until discharged in 1945; in 1944 while still in the service was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-ninth Congress; reelected to the thirteen succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1945, until his death in Washington, D.C., October 6, 1971; delegated to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Employment at Havana in 1947 and 1948, and to the fourteenth General Assembly of United Nations in 1959; served as adviser on space to United States Mission at United Nations, 1960-1969; interment in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pa
