InfoSteve Shogan was born in Detroit, Michigan, in a middle class neighborhood. His father was an insurance salesman, and his mother was a public school teacher. He grew up with two sisters and a brother.

Steve attended the University of Michigan where he got his undergraduate degree with high distinction, concentrating on economics and pre-medicine. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1976 and then completed a six-year training program in Neurosurgery through the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

In 1982, he moved to Denver where he has been one of Colorado’s foremost neurosurgeons for more than 30 years. He is highly respected by his peers, listed as one of 5280 Magazine's "Top Doctors" for neurosurgery 16 years in a row.

Dr. Steve holds a Diplomat certification from both the American Board of Neurological Surgery (1985) and from the National Board of Medical Examiners (1977).

While practicing medicine, Steve also studied at the University of Denver College of Law, where he received his JD and was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1987. He has been admitted to practice in the Federal District Court of Colorado and before the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. For several years, he volunteered as an attorney for indigent clients through Denver’s Thursday Night Bar, which evolved into the Metro Volunteer Lawyers.

From 1982 to 1984, Dr. Steve was an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center as well as the Medical Co-Director of Neurology-Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit at Denver General Hospital.

Since 1984, he has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery as well as the Chief of Neurosurgery at Rose Medical Center. From 1993 to 1995, he also acted as the Medical Staff President at Rose Medical Center.
