Academy Evening School in 1938; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress (January 3, 1939-January 3, 1941); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1940 to the Seventy-seventh Congress; served on the staff of Senator James J. Davis in Pittsburgh; sheriff of Allegheny County, Pa., 1942-1944; elected to the Seventy-ninth and to the thirteen succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1945, until his death in Pittsburgh, Pa., April 25, 1971; interment in Union Dale Cemetery.
