Info
I grew up in Leavenworth, KS and eventually graduated from Lansing High in 2006. For the majority of my life I have been an outdoorsman, enjoying our state's camping grounds, lakes, rivers, etc. I love fishing, hiking, camping and simply being outside surrounded by the natural world. I also find myself picking up a lot of the old world traditions like brewing my own beer, gardening, unsuccessfully raising chickens and I plan to start making my own wine and cheese very soon.

One of my many hobbies is martial arts and self defense. When I was in college, I picked up the martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I began training as a white belt under BJJ black belt Joe Wilk of Combative Sports Center in Manhattan. After transferring colleges to attend the School of Geology at KU, I began the KU Jiu Jitsu Club where I trained other students and faculty in this martial art as well as coached several MMA fighters at the same time. While in college, I managed to obtain a 2nd degree black belt (Nidan) in Japanese Ju Jutsu, which is very similar to the Brazilian variety, only more self defense oriented. I also obtained my Level II Modern Army Combatives (MACP) instructor's certificate and taught MACP on Ft. Leavenworth for a few years. For the last 3 years I have been training at KCBJJ where I received my purple belt under Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Jason Bircher. Of all the many hobbies I have, BJJ is the one that is near and dear to my heart and when I'm not busy teaching or keeping up with politics, I'm thinking about getting back on the mats. I also have a deep passion for learning and spend most of my time during my commute to work listening to podcasts on a variety of subjects such as world religions, philosophy, science, politics and many other things. From the Joe Rogan podcast to more serious things like Democracy Now, I do everything i can to absorb as much of the world as possible in the short time I have on this planet.

After graduating from Lansing High I went on to getting my degree in geology and secondary education from the University of Kansas. While at KU, I met my wonderful wife. We both were taking teaching courses in the UKANTEACH program and within the first month of having class together, we had already started dating. We dated all through college until finally tying the knot in July of 2012.

After graduating from KU, I moved on and taught 2 years of 7th grade life science at Patton Jr. High where I started a gardening and outdoor education program where my students practice science the way it was intended to be. I can truly say there are few things in this world that I enjoy more than teaching this country’s youth. I’m currently working on my masters degree in education and teaching life science at Rosedale Middle School in the Kansas City, Kansas school district.

While it was never my intention to enter the political arena, my interest in politics has built quickly over the last few years as I watch an ever increasing divide in Congress grow and money becoming the motivating factor behind most of the decisions made. Our constitutional rights are secretly being stripped away, our environment is in ever increasing jeopardy, and our farmers are being run over by big corporations. With all that’s happening in the world, I’m ready to take a stand and represent my state so that we can build a better future for the coming generations of Americans.
