InfoMy name is Jason Seagraves, and I want to represent the Seventh District of Michigan in Congress. I feel I have the background and values that are truly representative of our district. I was born in Adrian at Bixby Hospital in April of 1978, and I have lived my entire life in Hillsdale and Lenawee Counties. I grew up in the rural outskirts of Addison, graduated from Addison High School in 1997, and attended Siena Heights University from '97 through 2000.

My mother is a factory worker at Klein Tools in Jonesville and my father is self-employed. He currently owns and operates a discount store in downtown Addison. My mother's biological father died in a gravel pit accident when she was a baby. Her adoptive father is a small farmer/ self-employed mechanic and part-time truck driver. My grandmother recently retired from Klein Tools. My paternal grandfather is a World War II veteran (Sergeant) who served as Vice President of Meyers Industries, building ships and airplanes, until retiring in 1984. Simply stated, I am a life long member of the working class, representative of our district.

During my time at Siena Heights University, I originally studied to be a teacher with majors in English, Child Development, and History. During my fourth year, I switched my major a third time to Business Administration. Due to my "eclectic" major selection, I was unable to finish college before I needed to begin earning an income to support myself and my wife, but I did enjoy a very diverse education during the seven semesters I was at Siena Heights.

In early 2001, I left Siena Heights to devote my undivided attention to my self-made internet-based mail-order business. Beginning as an online magazine/ personal homepage while I was still in high school, my wife and I built our company into the third or fourth largest online music distributor of its kind by the beginning of 2003. Throughout our first three years of operation, the business grew at an alarming rate, providing a comfortable working class income for my wife and I. However, beginning in 2003, my business and my family really began to feel the effects of recession, and thus, we decided it was time to close the business late that year.

I married my wife Jessica in August of 2001. We bought a manufactured home in Adrian's Hidden River community that same year. We have built a business together, and now seek to build this campaign together. With the closing of our business in late 2003, Jessica has decided to seek employment in order to support my run for Congress. I am forever indebted to her for numerous reasons, this being just one of them.

I now work two jobs, over fifty hours per week. I am a personal instructor (working one-on-one with students who have special needs) at Addison High School, and I also work with children as a mentor for Behavior Educators in Adrian. After being behind a computer for five years, it feels great to work in the community, and doing so has played a great part in my decision to run for Congress.

The people of this district are working class individuals who want better education for our children, and expansive health care coverage for our seniors, our children, and ourselves. Wealthy career politicians have lost touch with the values and aspirations of this district, but as a true member of it, I have not. I do not have health care coverage. I am deep in student loan debt. I have had to miss an electric bill because I simply did not have the money. I have known success, but I have also felt the effects of this recession. This government of the people, by the people, and for the people calls for us to elect "representatives" to Congress, and I feel I represent the working class values of this district. It is time to have a member of the working class working for the working class in Washington.
