Info | Edward Fitzpatrick Herman fought on the front lines of the War On Terror in Afghanistan. As part of a highly trained military intelligence task force, Ed interrogated dozens of senior Al-Qaeda operatives captured in Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere around the world. In recognition of his service Ed was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. A fluent Arabic speaker and Islamic affairs expert, Ed will bring to Congress a level of hands-on expertise in the War Against Terror that is unmatched in Washington.
Prior to being called back to active military duty from the reserves in the weeks following September 11, 2001, Ed was an international communications and government relations consultant in Cleveland and New York City. After returning from Afghanistan, Ed began working as a licensed real estate agent on Cleveland's West and South Sides.
A native of Fairview Park, Ed attended Saint Ignatius High School and was a scholarship student at Fordham University. He is also a graduate of the Defense Language Institute and the United States Army Intelligence Center. While in military service, Ed served at the United States Mission to the United Nations. In addition, he spent a year teaching English to children in the United Arab Emirates. Ed's father, Ed, is a retired Cleveland police officer, and his mother, Diane, is an active volunteer in the community.
Ed is a member of American Legion Post 451, Disabled American Veterans, the Cleveland Area Board of REALTORS, the Lakewood Republicans and the Lakewood Family YMCA Capital Campaign volunteer board. While in Afghanistan he was assigned or attached to the 101st Airborne Division, 10th Mountain Division, XVIII Airborne Corps, and the Army Intelligence and Security Command.
