Info | A third generation Oklahoman, Robert Butkin has brought common sense values and sound business practices to the operations of the State Treasurer's Office.
Robert's reforms have generated millions of dollars in savings and additional revenues for Oklahoma taxpayers. He did away with the "good old boy" system upon taking office and his policies now permit all Oklahoma communities equal access to state deposits. That way, our tax dollars are put to use creating new jobs and building our economy in every Oklahoma community.
Robert was elected in 1994 in his first race for political office. In 1998, he became the first state treasurer in Oklahoma history to be re-elected without opposition. In 2002, he broke new ground gaining re-election without an opponent for a second consecutive time.
Robert led development of the Oklahoma College Savings Plan, a tax-free and flexible program that helps Oklahoma families save for a child or grandchild's college or career tech education.
Robert brought together political and business leaders to establish a sound and conservative way to best use the $2.4 billion tobacco settlement in Oklahoma . Voters approved a constitutional fund in November 2000.
Robert headed Governor Brad Henry's transition team following the 2002 general election. The governor cited Robert's universal respect and deep knowledge of state government when naming him to the post.
Robert, his wife, Nina, and daughters, Olivia, Julia and Claire, make their home in Tulsa . Their latest addition, Claire, made her entrance on November 3, 2004 .
