| Info | BOB MILLER was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Nevada in 1955. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Santa Clara in 1967 and his law degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 1971. He was a part-time deputy sheriff in Los Angeles and Las Vegas from 1967 to 1971, deputy district attorney from 1971 to 1973, first legal advisor for the Metropolitan Police Department from 1973 to 1975, and justice of the peace for the Las Vegas Township from 1975 to 1978. He was elected Clark County District Attorney in 1978 and relected in 1982. He served as president of the National District Attorneys' Association and was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the National Taskforce on Victims Assistance. He was elected lieutenant governor in 1986 and assumed the duties of governor in 1989 after Governor Richard H. Bryan was elected to the US Senate. Governor Miller was elected to a four-year term in 1990 and was reelected in 1994. In 1993, he was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the US Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations and the Federal Emergency Management Agency Advisory Board. Governors Miller was Chairman of the National Governors' Association from 1996 to 1997.
