Info | Guy Edward Davis, Jr.
Born in Troy, Alabama, Guy attended College Park High School and graduated from Murphy High School in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army and underwent basic training in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. He was assigned to a Military Police Unit in Orleans, France where he worked with French civilian police until his honorable discharge in 1963. He entered Georgia State University on the GI Bill in September of 1963, attending evening classes while employed as a police officer, then Homicide Detective with the City of Atlanta, and investigator with the Fulton County District Attorney's Office. A devoted husband of fifty-years, he married the former Martha Nan Cook of Calhoun. In May of 1970, he received the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, and enrolled in Emory University School of Law as a full time student. While supporting his family between classes and in the evenings, he obtained his Doctor of Law Degree in 2 ΒΌ years, graduating in December of 1972. An accomplished attorney who always took the time to pass down knowledge to younger lawyers, Guy practiced civil and criminal law for over forty years. He served as a Fulton County Assistant District Attorney under Lewis Slayton until 1976 when he went into private practice focusing in the areas of criminal, family, product liability, tort and insurance law. A fierce proponent of a strong two-party system of Government, Guy made the decision to challenge an entrenched Georgia Governor in 1986. As the Republican Nominee, he carried a respectable 30% of the electoral vote at a time when the base of the Party was considerably less. "Guy Davis was in many ways a trailblazer for our modern GOP party in Georgia," said Congressman Jack Kingston. "As Young Republicans, Libby and I put out many signs for Guy back in 1986 when he stepped-up to challenge Governor Joe Frank Harris when others would not. He ran an honorable race; obtaining the vote of almost a third of the electorate, which was considered a success for Republicans in those early days," said Kingston.
